Miner
Miner is one of seven classes available to choose from in the CivLabs plugin.
A Miner's main role is to mine ores that can be used by Blacksmiths to craft better tools, closely linking their abilities with those of Blacksmiths. Only high-level Miners are able to mine better ores.

Mining a resource (e.g. Iron) is shorthand for breaking the ore block of that resource (e.g. Iron Ore) and collecting the resource item (e.g. Raw Iron).

Class Interactions
The Miner is the first step in the process of improving gear. They mine ores of increasing value in tandem with their increasing level. The next step is the Blacksmith, who can turn the ores into tools and armor. The Miner in turn requires improved pickaxes, which can be supplied by the Blacksmith in quantity. Therefore, the two classes often work hand in hand to benefit both.
A Miner's life becomes much easier with the presence of a Healer. Before that point, without a way to recover health, the amount of damage they can safely sustain is severely limited, and as such, the level of risk they can take.
Depending on their play style, a Miner may also prefer being accompanied by a Guardsman in caving expeditions.
Guide
There are three main strategies for mining as a Miner, each with their own upsides and downsides.
1. Strip mining, usually near bedrock. Despite being unable to harvest Deepslate at Novice (0), it can still be mined and grants 2 XP per block broken. Though monotonous, this is one of the most efficient methods of gaining XP. Due to ore distributions, this method is ideal for amassing large quantities of Diamonds, Redstone and Lapis Lazuli, though other minerals (such as Iron) are better mined at different altitudes.
2. Water mining. The strategy involves swimming through a submerged cavern to locate and harvest ores, periodically placing down doors to create temporary air pockets with which to breathe. This method amasses many ores, little to no stone, and can be quick for leveling up. Drowned can spawn and attack the player, so caution is advised, especially when surfacing.
3. Caving. Exploring caves is dangerous and involved, but covers a lot of ground relatively quickly compared to other methods, and as such can be worth the risk for some. A Guardsman is highly recommended to accompany the Miner(s), as hostile mobs will spawn, and can pose a serious threat, especially at night when they deal increased damage and can break blocks to reach players.
Tips
- Miners benefit a lot from keeping track of the time of day, such as with a Clock, as the nighttime buffs to hostile mobs have relevant implications for their survival. It is often safer to avoid mining at night entirely, though this severely limits the amount of time that a Miner can spend performing their task.
- Players can locate and expose ore veins before reaching the requisite level for harvesting, and come back for them at a later time.
- Ore blocks can also be saved to be mined with a pickaxe enchanted with Fortune for a higher yield, though there are no guarantees such a pickaxe will ever be acquired.
Notes
If a Miner attempts to mine a block of a higher-level requirement, the block will drop with a roughly 1/6 - 1/7 chance. This is most likely intended.
