Miner

Miner is one of seven classes available to choose from in the CivLabs plugin.

A Miner's main role is to mine ores that can be used by Blacksmiths to craft better tools, closely linking their abilities with those of Blacksmiths. Only high-level Miners are able to mine better ores.

Class Interactions

The Miner is the first step in the process of improving gear. They mine ores of increasing value in tandem with their increasing level. The next step is the Blacksmith, who can turn the ores into tools and armor. The Miner in turn requires improved pickaxes, which can be supplied by the Blacksmith in quantity. Therefore, the two classes often work hand in hand to benefit both.

Guide

There are three main strategies for mining as a Miner, each with their own upsides and downsides.

1. Strip mining, usually near bedrock. Despite being unable to harvest Deepslate at Novice (0), it can still be mined and grants 2 XP per block broken. Though monotonous, this is one of the most efficient methods of gaining XP. Due to ore distributions, this method is ideal for amassing large quantities of Diamonds, Redstone and Lapis Lazuli, though other minerals (such as Iron) are better mined at different altitudes.

2. Water mining. The strategy involves swimming through a submerged cavern to locate and harvest ores, periodically placing down doors to create temporary air pockets with which to breathe. This method amasses many ores, little to no stone, and can be quick for leveling up. Drowned can spawn and attack the player, so caution is advised, especially when surfacing.

3. Caving. Caving is dangerous and involved, but covers a lot of ground relatively quickly compared to other methods, and as such can be worth the risk for some. A Guardsman is highly recommended to accompany the miner(s), as hostile mobs will spawn, and can pose a serious threat to players, especially at night when they deal increased damage and can break blocks to reach players.

Tips

- Miners benefit a lot from keeping track of the time of day, such as with a Clock, as the nighttime buffs to hostile mobs have relevant implications for their survival. It is often safer to avoid mining at night entirely, though this severely limits the amount of time that a Miner andcan eachspend haveperforming their owntask.
- positivesPlayers can locate and negatives.

1.expose Theore mostveins efficientbefore wayreaching the requisite level for harvesting, and come back for them at a later time.
- Ore blocks can also be saved to gainbe XP is to mine Deepslate just above bedrock. This is the most boring and mind numbing strategy. The reason this works is because, even if you can't mine Deepslate, it still gives 2XP which lets you level up very fast. The XP gain can vary at 1600XP an hourmined with a woodenpickaxe enchanted with Fortune for a higher yield, though there are no guarantees such a pickaxe andwill no haste to 7680XP with an iron pickaxe and haste 3. However, you get very little iron in return for more diamonds. (Which you can't mine until level 5). Be aware of mobs in your strip mine as well. This leaves some risk if you don't know what you are doing as, during the night, mobs can dig through walls. Be prepared to run.

2. The second most effective and arguably safest method to gain XP actually gets the most ores. The method is water mining. Using a boat over an ocean, scout out large caves and, using a door to breathe underwater, mine every type of ore you see. This type of mining is most likely the best method for mining early game before you shift to Deepslate mining at level 4 once you have enough iron and copper. It yields from 4000 to 6000 XP an hour depending on luck and skill. Beware of drowneds especially when you rise to the surface.

3. Caving is the most enjoyable method and, if you know what you are doing, are in the late game and have a Guardsman, mightever be the most efficient method to gain diamonds. The problem is the countless number of mobs. This can be lowered by only mining during the day but is still dangerous if you don't pay attention.

Nevertheless, the number one piece of advice to give is to avoid mining diamonds until you have some form of fortune.acquired.

Notes

If a Miner attempts to mine a block of a higher-level requirement, the block will drop with a roughly 1/6 - 1/7 chance. This is most likely intended.
