The Sandmen

The Sandmen

The Sandmen are a very old people, that have inhabited the desert for generations. They dwell ancient lands, that they theorize might one day have been prosperous, and have now turned into near wasteland, with their cultural feats, buried under that very perilous ground. Their numbers are decent, and their feats surprising, meanwhile, their enemies, are many, if not most.

History

The Sandmen do not have an obvious origin. While it is known that they inhabit the Spawn Desert, some may have adopted the nomadic lifestyle after leaving a settled group they had joined. A popular theory is that they once built a grand civilization, before the sands arrived, and turn the prosperous ground into the barren near-wasteland. That, however, remains on debate. Here is a map of the proposed area that the Sandmen inhabit, from player knowledge, attack reports, and Sandmen recruit experience, credits to Vingo for making the map:

Sandmen are known to been at north Lumber Coast at their southernmost point, at south Kustlandia and Elpida at their northernmost point. Reports say that Sandmen have at certain points, been able to trade, and take wood from other civs, making them able to build boats. Sandmen were at one point reported as far north as Duckland and Madagascar, in which they were present as traders, and were not violent, probably having traveled from a small trade route from Kustlandia. It has also been reported that Sandmen have raided as far as the Promised Lands. However, this remains debatable, as Sandmen are not known to be able to do maritime travel that far. It is known that less nomadic Sandmen have, at certain points and at certain times, been recruited into the nations they have traveled to. Sandmen have been known to be more aggressive to civilizations to the south.

Economy

As a nomadic and unsettled people, sandmen do not typically specialize in a role as they lack the support system to do so and remain generalists that can perform most simple tasks survive. Food is obtained in the form of trading or stealing from the surrounding settlements or by hunting rabbits.

Government

As a nomadic people, they don't have any known from of government or collective action structure. Although a they hold each other in higher regard than outsiders.

Foreign affairs

As a loosely organized group the actions they take are in many ways unpredictable. Some Sandmen are entirely peaceful travelers willing to engage in diplomacy and trade. While some see settled peoples as cowardly for fleeing the harsh desert and weak for being reliant on others for survival. Those who hold such disdain for settled people will attack at the worst time and run off with valuable resources which can't be found in the untamed desert.

Military

It can be said that the tactics of Sandmen frightening and unpredictable, with slim chance of being spotted or noticed until events are already in motion. Many arson incidents have been instigated by sandmen.
