Mycelia

Mycelia

Mycelia wa an island nation founded by Participant 974 during session 1. A moai statue built by Participant 974 was a focal point for worship and meetings. Participant 974 was the leader, while Participant 640 was the vice leader.

The nation encompassed the land and waters of two

mushroom islands. Most inhabitants lived on the

southernmost of these. From session 2 until session 5,

The Jestocracy was a vassal nation inhabiting the northern island.

From session 8 until session 11, the Mycelian leadership

governed in-exile, while The Jestocracy claimed control of both islands.

Mycelia was then under the control of the Storm Alliance - a pact made between Skyland and Marinas - from Session 13 onward. They entered and established walls and signs, securing it for their own without difficulty.

History

Session 1

Mycelia was founded by Participant 974, during session 1, escaping spawn and finding a mushroom island; where no hostile mobs may spawn. Others would eventually follow, thus creating the nation, primarily on the southern island.
They wandered freely under sun and moon, building a perimeter wall to protect against occasional Drowned.
They built farms of berry, wheat, and cane to satisfy food and healing, while they grew the native population of mooshrooms through breeding.

Session 2

With session 2, more players joined the nation. These players included a prospective healer, builder, and blacksmith, who previously lived off of the side of Capital Hill. There was a trial by fire where members of Mycelia stood on hot coals and then were tended to by the healers, which improved their skill and knowledge.
Limited space on the southern island began discussions of closing the doors to any future prospective immigrants. These discussions met resistance when The Jestocracy attempted to move onto the southern island. They caused mischief but were rebuffed by the Mycelians. However, they were later found living on the previously uninhabited northern island, which they had annexed. A deal was suggested to allow them to stay there, as long as Mycelia's miners guild (Minecelia), could still mine underneath them. Later agreements made The Jestocracy a subsidiary nation of Mycelia.

Session 3

By the start of session 3, knowledge of the mushroom islands' existence, and Mycelia's monopoly over them, had spread across the world. Within the nation, there were concerns of possible attacks by outsiders who wished to take over or destroy the islands. There was also worry that the gods might remove the islands’ blessings to appease calls for fairness from members of other nations.
During the session, Mycelians expanded their farms into the ocean and began to build structures across the islands. Diplomats from other nations visited to establish relations with Mycelia.
Session 3 ended without any outside attack, and the mushroom islands remained blessed. However, near the end of the session, there was a spate of Drowned incursions, resulting in some deaths.

Session 4

During session 4, Mycelian diplomats travelled to Dead Horse and established an embassy there in order to reduce tensions between the two nations.
On the island multiple building projects were completed, these included: a town hall, a hotel, a blacksmith, as well as houses for residents.

Session 5

Plans by Mycelians to create a place for the world's nations to gather (a United Nations), were announced at the start of session 5. The ocean north of the southern island was chosen, and construction was started. However, progress was halted not long after due to the proximity to The Jestocracy. The Mycelians in charge of the project claimed they were looking for a new location to build.
The status of The Jectocracy within Mycelia had ruptured. The Jestocracy leadership claimed independence from Mycelia, and had named the northern island North Sentinel Island. The Mycelian leadership did not recognise this independence.

Elsewhere on the island, the border wall was improved with bricks to repel Drowned, and a dock was finished by the Town Hall to welcome visitors. Pumpkin lanterns were placed throughout the waters surrounding the island to make them as safe as the land.

Session 6

By session 6, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs building had been built in Mycelia. In response to tensions between Dead Horse and members of the Jestocracy, The Ambassador for Mycelia (Participant 106) stressed that Mycelia would defend its territorial integrity along with the following statement:

Mycelia is a neutral and peaceful country; we are not formally allied with the Jestocracy.

This statement was an implicit recognition of an independent Jestocracy.
The Mycelians continued to progress in their professions: miners ventured into the Nether, the librarian made maps, and the blacksmith reached master level. A mob farm was constructed in the skies off shore of Mycelia, for training guardsman. Citizens also ventured to foreign nations to trade and improve relations, or to distant lands to further Mycelian knowledge of the world. Some of these journeys resulted in misfortune and death, while others provided riches and opportunities.

The Mycelians observed as a sign was constructed over North Sentinel Island which read: Death To Dead Horse. Then both Mycelians and Jesterites gathered as news of an attack on Dead Horse spread.

Session 7

The Ambassador for Mycelia (Participant 106) and a diplomatic entourage partook on a tour of world nations to formalise Mycelian foreign relations during session 7. Their tour plan included stops at Dead Horse, Fort Red Berry and Loup Land.

At Mycelia, there was a TNT attack on the primary animal pens, killing dozens of mooshrooms, sheep, cows, and chickens. The Town Hall was damaged too, with holes blasted in the walls and roof. Many Mycelians were away from the island when the attack happened, only finding out as they returned. The perpetrator, known griefer Participant 527, was pursued off the island and killed by Mycelian leader Participant 974.

In response to the attack, the Foreign Ministry of Mycelia implored all Mycelians to return to their home island for sessions 8 and 9. The Mycelians already on the island quickly repaired the pens and Town Hall, although the mooshrooms (and other animals) were moved out of the open, for their safety.

Session 8

During session 8, the majority of the original members of Mycelia fled the nation due to the rising number of terrorists in their lands. Unable to ward off the terrorists who flocked to Mycelia after the abandonment of The Jestocracy, many of the members fled to Loup Land, a nation which has welcomed the refugees with open arms. The Mycelian government, acting abroad, made plans to secure the islands once more.

The islands were left mostly abandoned with only the occasional vagrant passing through of unclear allegiance. North Sentinel Island, home to The Jestocracy, had been raided in the previous session. Some Jesterites sought food and shelter within the city of Mycelia. There was no order, as the fields were stripped for food, and the friendly mobs were loosed from their pens.

Session 9

At the start of session 9, the Jester returned to Mycelia to find it without leadership and claimed it for The Jestocracy. He collected the stragglers still on the island together and gave them tasks to coordinate to bring life back to the ghost town. The fields were tended to for food and paper; the mines were worked for building materials and ores; and a bridge was constructed connecting the two islands: North Sentinel Island and the city of Mycelia.
On the islands were a mix of players of various allegiances: some were loyal to the blessed islands, some were loyal to The Jestocracy, and some were loyal only to themselves.

Mycelia's government-in-exile requested help from other nations in dealing with the city's occupation. There was a coordinate effort to help Mycelia which included citizens of Dead Horse, Fort Red Berry, and Loup Land. In particular, Fort Red Berry helped provide gear for Dead Horse troops, who sought known griefers among the inhabitants of the Mycelian islands.

The allied troops travelled to Mycelia and swarmed on to the streets. They chased out the known griefers, or killed them where they stood. They changed the sign over North Sentinel Island to read: Glory To Dead Horse. The troops from Dead Horse returned home to prevent any attack there. The Foreign Ministry of Mycelia requested a maintained presence of allied troops on the island to prevent griefers returning.

Session 10

As of writing this, Mycelia has fallen, all players who used to live there have either fled the nation, joined the Jestocracy, or haven't logged in. after the group raid in session 9, the jester reorganized his citizens and resumed his claim on the island even trying to recruit old mycelians to join Jestocracy though most decided to leave.

Session 13

Mycelia is now under the protection of The Storm Alliance - made of Skyland and Marinas - with some members planning to move in a revive the land to its former glory under their banner and protection.

Economy

Mycelia has an inherent monopoly on the mushroom trade, selling to multiple nations.

With session 6 citizens of Mycelia could trade in: enchantments and maps; tools, armour, and ores; and blessed foods. Trade talks sometimes included the Mycelian leadership to ensure the interests of the nation weren't put at risk.

Government

Participant 974 is the leader and Participant 640 is the vice leader. Other important heads of state include 106, a diplomat for Mycelia, especially for Dead Horse.

Foreign affairs

Mycelia tries to not interact with other nations, choosing a path of peace, & isolationism.

Foreign nations have variably viewed the island with distrust and curiosity, due its special qualities of food and safety. Representatives of foreign nations visited to establish good relations throughout the first three sessions, and some received mooshrooms in trade or as a gift.
However, there were voices of disquiet within foreign nations over the 'fairness' of the Mycelia's monopoly of the mushroom islands. This was especially true of the continental nations. During session 4, a Mycelian diplomatic party visited Dead Horse to set up an embassy there, they brought mooshrooms to it to offer free food to the citizens of Dead Horse.

Other nations based in the ocean, such as The Marinas, have allied with Mycelia and have benefitted with traded mooshrooms.

Mycelia - The Jestocracy Relations

The Jestocracy by session 3 had become a subsidiary nation of Mycelia, inhabiting the northern island. Their acts of tomfoolery across the world had made many nations cautious of them, if not antogonistic. Alleged murderers, arsonists, and griefers were known to frequent there.
The Jestocracy annexed the north island, called North Sentinel Island and, during session 5, claimed independence from Mycelia. The Mycelian government did not recognise this independence at the time. However, during session 6, the Foreign Ministry referred to them as a distinct nation.

Due to the proximity of the islands and their shared mushroom qualities and history, their citizens often travelled freely between the two. The Jestocracy's leadership, in particular, often walked the streets of Mycelia and entertained the locals.
This familiarity between the two nations and their citizens made any feud between them seem unlikely, as of the end of session 6.

However, when Mycelians fled into exile to avoid griefers in their streets, The Jestocracy leadership claimed the city for themselves. The griefers were allowed to remain free and use Mycelia's resources for themselves.

Military

Rundown on how the nation handles military policy.

Culture

Participant 974 would eventually build a moyai statue. This statue would come to be accepted by all other citizens of Mycelia. The moyai statue is very important in Mycelian culture, being where people meet, discuss, and chill. It lies in the center of the southern island.

The uniqueness of the islands, with its native mooshrooms and ground unsullied by hostile mobs, has become a point of unity for the Mycelians who have the privilege to live on the blessed islands.

The Mycelians are a friendly people who welcome visitors to their islands openly. They are also charitable, setting up embassies in foreign nations where they can offer mushroom stew to the citizens.
