National Story of Dead Horse

The National Story of Dead Horse is a text created by Player 802, detailing Dead Horse's early history up to the start of Session 3. It includes an account of the mob swarms that plagued the first few sessions, the initial dissolution of the settlement, and the appearance of the skeleton horse from which the nation derives its name. It was initially repeated by word of mouth, primarily by 802 himself, before being written down as it appears below.

Text of the National Story of Dead Horse

"As we all know, this is a nation of faith. But not just any faith! The one, true faith. Now I wish to tell you — as the earthly representative of the faith — what we are, with a story. Long ago, there was a civilization, one of faith. Our faith, with a few differences. They believed in the same gods we do, and they communicated with them the same as we do, they mined the mountains, farmed the land, and built similar to how we do. But on a fateful night a horde of mobs from hell spawned under their land. They destroyed everything, people migrated; a land of nearly a dozen became a ghost town overnight. The gods noticed their people fail[ing] in the face of challenge, and instead of forcing their hand, they gave them a message in the skies and on the earth. A symbol of our endurance as a people emerged: with the lightning coming down, a horse was born. A horse without flesh. One of the bones. The miracle of life, and the symbol of our people, was born. With the great blue sky, and her gods giving us our symbol, our people became empowered, ready, with the blessing of the gods, to try again - to endure. Once again, on the same soil, did people mine the mines, farm the land, and build again. Our gods, who write in the sky, and sometimes give gifts to the land, have helped us in times of need. The hordes still come, but with the sky's messages, the horse's miracle, and our worship, will we not only survive - but thrive."
