Blacksmith

Blacksmith is one of seven classes available to choose from in the CivLabs plugin.

A blacksmith's main role is to craft upgraded tools for players. Any player can craft wooden tools, but only a blacksmith can craft tools made of a better material than wood (stone, iron, diamond etc). Blacksmiths gain XP through crafting tools and armor, and also by smelting ores.

Class Interactions

A new paragraph per relevant class describing dependencies and likely interactions between players in each. [First mention of the other class written in colour of its class]

Blacksmiths are most reliant on Miners as a source of stone, coal, and ores. Although it is possible to gain XP without them (see below) it is faster to have a reliable supply from Miners.

Guide

Collection of tips and advice on how to play the class, including how to level it up efficiently. [Build on information from rest of page and try to avoid repeating.]

One strategy for gaining XP is to craft tools. In this case it is most efficient to craft pickaxes or axes because the XP gained is directly proportional to the amount of material used in the crafted item. Conveniently these two tools are often requested by other classes.

Another strategy, especially if stone and iron are scarce, is to smelt wood logs into charcoal. A blacksmith can be cutting down more trees while the previous wood logs are in the furnace, and then remove the charcoal for XP. This is more efficient than making wood tools, and doesn't cause the blacksmith to gain XP in a different class (as mining stone would do).
