Wiki Organization / Etiquette
This page goes over organization and Etiquette that makes the wiki easier to look through and edit
Organization
In order to keep the wiki easy to navigate, there is a basic level of organization to follow.
Below is the hierarchy of organization in the wiki.
- Shelf - Shelves are the highest form of organization, sorting books into a few broad categories based on events, players, nations, information, etc. Books can go onto multiple different shelves. Shelves are created and managed by wiki moderators.
- Book - Books exist as places to group pages about a specific topic. While books can be created by anyone, please consult a wiki moderator before creating a new book. Most topics should already have a book, so please look around before asking for a new book.
- Chapter - Chapters are divisions within books that sort pages into collapsible menus. These can be used to reduce clutter in a book by grouping similar pages. Anyone can create a chapter, but please only make them to sort pages based on some characteristic.
- Page - Pages are the places for long-form content, being the bulk of the content on the wiki. If you want to write something on the wiki, this is the place to do it. These must be placed inside of a book, and should be put into a chapter where applicable. Anyone can create pages.
Generally shelves and books categorize topics, while chapters divide up books to make them readable.
Many books and chapters will have notes for contributors to help with organization or formatting, please look at these before adding anything!
Additionally, to help keep the wiki connected, editors should add links to other nations, players, groups, etc, the first time they are mentioned in a page. This helps keep the wiki connected and easy to navigate.
Etiquette
Just some things to consider when doing pages. These aren't required, but help to make the wiki a nicer and more connected place.
- Please use proper grammar!
- Capitalize the first letter in a sentence, proper nouns, the pronoun "I", and acronyms.
- Don't capitalize everything unless for a reason.
- Any official english spelling works
- Please don't overuse text formats, we want to keep things readable
- Use paragraphs to separate ideas
- Add links to players, places, or concepts that have a wiki page the first time they are mentioned.
- Italicize words that reference a literary source, article, or book1, whether in-game or out of game.
- Ex. The National Story of Deadhorse contributed greatly to Dead Horse nationalism.
- Bold words that reference a place or player.
- Ex. Player 206 of Lumber Coast built a nice house on session 14.
- You can use the "Set Changelog" button in the top-right of the editor to leave a short description of the changes you made. This can be very helpful for other editors to see your changes.
